Background
The International Research Laboratory for Nuclear Physics and nuclear Astrophysics (IRL NPA) brings together scientists from France and the US, addressing topics in nuclear science (see https://npa.in2p3.fr for more details, and information about the kickoff meeting in December). Among the activities supported by the IRL NPA there is the organization of workshops on well-defined topics. The IRL NPA is launching here the 2024 call for the organization of workshops.
Framework and Funding
The workshops must take place at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), in East Lansing, Michigan, before December 2024 and are expected to last a few days. It is also expected that these workshops bring together scientists who do not usually meet. The IRL NPA will allocate up to 10,000 USD per workshop and is planning to fund two workshops in 2024. The support is intended to cover travel and/or local accommodation expenses for some participants.
Application Procedure and Dates
Applicants for an IRL NPA workshop support must submit a short (2-3 pages) proposal indicating the following information: title, expected dates, short scientific justification, names and coordinates of organizers, potential participants (not necessarily contacted) and a preliminary total budget. It is expected that organizers and participants reflect a fair partition between scientists from CNRS and FRIB. Applications should be sent by e-mail to marguero@frib.msu.edu before April 30 (Tuesday), 2024.
Application evaluation
Proposals will be evaluated by the IRL NPA scientific council and will be considered in terms of: 1) The relevance of the proposed topic; 2) The relationship with the topics of the IRL NPA; 3) The estimated total cost.
Applicants will be informed by May 31, 2024 about the outcome of the selection procedure and the “finalists” will be informed also about practical matters for the organization of the workshop.
